How do people adapt to new places?

This week we talked a lot about how people adapt to new places.  It was discussed in class that when a student is new to a school they should adapt by being friendly to others, join extra-curricular activities, and take a tour of the new school.

When I first bought a house I had to adapt in several ways.  All of the bills and paperwork were very overwhelming.  I adapted by going out and buying some file folders and a crate to organize all of the mail.  I was unfamiliar with the area so I did some research on the internet about the what stores were nearby.  I also made a point to walk around the neighborhood and say hello to my neighbors.  These are some of the ways I adapted to my new home.

What is a way that YOU had to adapt to a new place?
